Homework
Spellings:
Our weekly spelling test takes place every Friday.
Year 2 spelling patterns are taught throughout the week, and new spellings to learn for the week are given out on Fridays. Children are expected to practise and learn these spellings with the support of an adult at home. Spelling results and scores from weekly tests are communicated with parents/carers on a sticker every Friday.
Phonics and Reading:
Children in Year 2 will continue their regular phonics teaching in school, which is supported by their reading books. Children receive two reading books per week, and are expected to engage in at least 20 minutes of daily reading at home. Children are also expected to bring their two reading books, their yellow reading record and their reading bag to school every day. Adults at home should sign in the yellow reading record daily after reading with their child, so that staff can keep track of the child’s reading progress. Reading books are changed on a weekly basis in school.
Maths:
In Year 2, children are expected to practise and recall multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. As well as learning them in school, children are encouraged to practise these at home on Times Tables Rock Stars. Their login details can be found in their yellow reading record.
Hit the Button is a very useful website which helps children to practise areas of Maths such as times tables, number bonds and doubling. Year 2 children are encouraged to use these wonderful websites and apps regularly to secure their knowledge of number facts in preparation for KS2, with the support and supervision of an adult.
