Meet our Reception Team!

Miss Bindley and Mrs Marenghi - Reception Teachers

Mr Iqbal, Mrs Gilmartin and Mrs Ssettaba- Teaching Assistants

Mrs Smith, Mrs Nazir, Mrs Aziz- Lunchtime Supervisors

In Reception, we provide a calm and nurturing environment where children feel welcome and ready to learn. Our priority is to support each child’s transition, helping them build social and emotional skills while developing independence.  Our curriculum is exciting and broad, covering all seven areas of the EYFS. We also follow the children’s interests, offering fun and engaging activities, and use in-the-moment planning to make the most of learning opportunities as they arise.

Reading Books – Children will bring home their new reading books on Wednesdays. Please bring these to school every day. It is the children’s and parent’s responsibility to look after these books when they are at home. Parents will be charged for any lost or damaged books.

Library Books- We visit the library every Wednesday. Please ensure your child brings their book to school every day.

PE- PE is on a Tuesday morning, children to come in PE kit on this day.

Outdoor Play- We are very fortunate to be upgrading our Early Years outdoor area, this will be free-flow throughout the day during provision and we often enjoy taking our learning outside. Please ensure your child comes to school in a suitable coat.

The EYFS focuses on five key areas of learning:

  1. Personal, Social, and Emotional Development – Helping children build confidence, develop relationships, and understand their feelings.
  2. Communication and Language – Encouraging children to listen, speak, and develop their vocabulary.
  3. Physical Development – Supporting children’s movement skills, coordination, and health.
  4. Literacy – Promoting early reading and writing skills.
  5. Mathematics – Introducing concepts like numbers, shapes, and simple problem-solving.

Alongside these, there is also Understanding the World (exploring the world around them) and Expressive Arts and Design (using creativity to express themselves).

How do we learn?

We play! The majority of our day is play-based, as this is how young children learn best.  The classroom is set up with opportunities for children to learn new skills and to practise the things they have learnt previously.

We also have daily adult-led sessions, where the children come together to learn.

Other fun ways to help your children learn include:

  • - talking about numbers, for example, asking how many chips they have left on their plate or counting red cars that drive past.
  • - drawing and colouring pictures, encouraging children to stay in the lines.
  • - writing lists and copying words found around the house.
  • - letting children get dressed and undressed by themselves.

Tuesday – PE – black bottoms, white t-shirt, black sweater

Book bags should be brought to school every day.

If you have any questions, please let us know. We look forward to supporting you and your child through Reception.

One of the best ways you can help at home is support your child with their reading and Phonics.  Every child is given a weekly reading book.  Please take 5-10 minutes a day to go through these with your child.
